Frequently asked questions
General
This service is designed for homeowners who may not qualify for a government
grant but want to benefit from solar energy immediately. HPO Homes installs a full
solar PV system, battery storage, and an inverter on your property with £0 upfront
cost. You pay for the system through a fixed, affordable monthly subscription fee.
We arrange the financing for the entire cost of the system and installation through
our lending and install partners. You enter into a simple monthly payment agreement
(similar to a mobile phone contract) for a set term (e.g., 10, 15, or 25 years). The
goal is for your electricity bill savings to offset most, if not all, of your monthly
payment.
Savings vary based on your homes energy consumption, roof orientation, and the
size of the system installed. During your free consultant, we provide a detailed
savings projection specific to your household, allowing you to see the financial
benefit before committing.
While you are financing the solar panel system through the Hometree scheme,
ownership remains with Hometree until the system is fully paid off. Once you
complete your fixed term, typically 25 years, you will own the system outright.
We offer various packages that can include maintenance and performance
guarantees for the duration of your subscription term, ensuring peace of mind. Your
solar consultant will outline these options during your appointment.
With your £0 upfront subscription, you will enjoy the following benefits throughout the
duration of your plan:
- No callout fees or excess payments
- Performance monitoring and regular inspections
- Unlimited system repairs
If any of the installed equipment breaks down during your subscription plan and
cannot be repaired, this will be replaced at no additional cost to you.
The number of solar panels required depends on your annual energy usage and the
available roof space. On average, most households may need about 10 panels to
cover their energy needs, but this can vary based on individual circumstances.
Solar panels typically last between 25 to 30 years. With your chosen finance plan,
you’ll also benefit from a comprehensive maintenance plan throughout the financing
period, ensuring your system is well cared for. While solar panels are designed to be
durable and efficient for decades, our maintenance plan provides peace of mind,
covering inspections and repairs if needed, so you can focus on enjoying the energy
savings.
In most cases, planning permission is not required for solar panels. However, if your
property is a listed building or if the solar system exceeds 50kW (approximately 120
panels), you may need to seek permission. This is unlikely for residential properties.
Yes, installing solar panels can increase your homes value. Solar panels can boost
your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating by at least one grade, further
enhancing property value.
